Likuni District Dorcas Women on Sunday last week donatedvarious items Worth K160,000 to elderly people in Chilinde Mchombo village in the area of Group Chisemphere, Traditional Authority Njewa in Lilongwe in a bid to ease some of the challenges elderly people were facing in their daily life.

Sort in an interview after the donation, Likuni Dorcas Women President Mrs Masalina Khumala said the humanitarian assistance was part of their contribution towards improving the life of the elderly who are always not taken care by community.

"We did an assessment and found out that most of the elderly people in these villages were struggling to fend for themselves as such the women took an initiative to contribute assorted items to help lessen their suffering," She explained.

Khumala further commended all Dorcas women for coming to rescue the elderly people in these villages by giving them assorted items that would help them to be relieved from some of the challenges they are facing.

In her remarks, the District Pastor's wife, Shepherdess Stella Kamgoma said what the Dorcas women had done symbolizes the love that Jesus Christ our Lord commands us to show to the needy and vulnerable people for them to appreciate the love of God.

Said Kamgoma, "It is humbling to share a little something to the elderly in the surrounding communities to make their life better."

Group village head (GVH) Chisemphere hailed Likuni dorcas women for their continued support to elderly people saying it had come at the right time when the elderly people had no basic necessities in their families.

"Now that the elderly and vulnerable people in my area have received these items, their lives will not be the same. God bless the Seventh Day Adventist church," he said.
