Bilira Zone AY Qualifies for Semi-Finals Of 2018 Youth Quiz Program



In continuing with the Adventist Youth quiz program, on 10th June 2018 Bilira zone Adventist Youth met Salima zone Adventist youth in the third quarter finals at Asante gardens located in the district of Salima. Clad in their beautiful uniforms, both teams looked so prepared for task before them. The quiz had six rounds which comprised of spiritual development, church administration and leadership, honors and awards, church heritage, bible mathematics, and memory game challenge. The event was also graced by Aubrey Banda and Harlod Chiwamba, a Youth Development Officer for Salima District council and Salima zone District pastor respectively. Salima zone team was represented by Emmie Makhuwira, Leni Gomani, Chinsisi Wayilesi, Cydreck Ganiza, Chimwemwe Tchauya, Macdonald Bluegum, and Prince Ganiza with their mentor Commrade Raphael Moyo. On the other hand, Bilira zone team was represented by Wycliff Bendulo, Nodess Kambewa, Rubiness Kazembe, Tisunge Kadyampakeni, Patrick Chafulumira, Robert Sakaika, and Chisomo Chauluka, with their mentor Commrade Precious Chikumbi. These teams were from classes of Adventurer, Pathfinder, Ambassador and Masterguide.


Pastor Comrade Mchewere Banda who is the Central Malawi Conference Youth Director in his opening remarks said, ‘the quiz program was instituted to promote reading spirit among the youth’. He continued to say that the Church needs youth who love reading and are able to keep what they read. He lamented that youth and the church should not only be busy in reading text and watsapp messages, but rather those materials that are beneficial to them and the church. ‘It is only those that are knowledgeable that can lead’, Mchewere Banda said. He however asked that the team which will not make it into semi-finals to accept defeat honorably and that the team proceeding to the next level should also cerebrate calmly without provoking the other.


After all six rounds, the quiz master comrade Khalani Makunje who is the Central Malawi Conference Youth Associate Director announced Bilira zone as the team proceeding to the semi-finals to take place in August. Bilira zone Adventist Youth scored 70 points against Salima zone Adventist Youth’s 69 points. The master of ceremony for the promgram was Commrade Innocent Majamanda from Salima zone. In his remarks, Youth development Officer for Salima District Council a Mr. Aubrey Banda commended the church for the quiz program. He however implored the church to continue with the program to empower the youth for leadership roles of today and tomorrow not only in church but also in the country. Pastor Harlod Chiwamba however, congratulated Bilira team for making it into semi-finals and wished them well. He, on the other hand encouraged the Salima team to work hard in future but also keep on reading. Three choir groups offered songs at the event, and these included Souls of Hope, The Rock of ages, and Chikande Adventist Youth..
