POWER OF THE MEDIA: Adventist Communicators Hold a Conference
Central Malawi Conference Communications Department together with the South Malawi Conference will this weekend hold glamorous communication seminar,designed to expand and improve the knowledge of communicators from different churches. The four- day seminar is scheduled to start on Thursday 8th February through Sunday at the magnificent Nalikule College of Education, some few kilometers from the capital city,Lilongwe and expects participants from various districts in the central and southern regions of Malawi.
Speaking in a telephone interview yesterday, communication Director at Central Malawi Conference, Chimwemwe Guluka said she delighted to host this seminar for the first time in her tenure. She further explained that this seminar is unique in kind. "Am proud to say that we are now doing the final touches. I can't hide my happiness since this is my first experience to have such audience with communicators and believe I will learn more. My expectation is that i would love to see the communicators going out with more skills. Sometimes we do have good and nice stories that can bring one to Jesus but we lack knowledge on how to write or report such stories, so this seminar will help us to be vibrant communicators. We need stories for our website, our magazine,tv,radio and for the circular media" she said. Central Malawi Conference Executive Secretary for Communication Department, Yunos Kamba, in a separate telephone interview, said the seminar serves as a motivating factor to both local churches and the conference office. "So delighted to host this seminar and I urge all communicators to come in large numbers, we have facilitators of high caliber with vast experience in media industry, like Thom Khanje, Tithokoze Khonyongwa, Hamilton Chimala just to mention a few" kamba said
News about the seminar has excited most communicators. Babra Silungwe from Matanda Church in Area25 could not hide . excitement,"am so excited,filled with enthusiasm that I will learn a lot from this seminar " she said According to the information on a official poster, the publication says the communicators will learn basic communication skills, photography, videography, electronic media, print media and public relations just to cite a few but all under the theme 'Power Of The Media'. The conference will also provide an opportunity for communicators from the south and centre to interact ,share skills and sharpen each other. Some keynote speakers at the oncoming seminar will be Central Malawi Conference President Pastor John Phiri, Station manager Hope Channel Malawi Pastor Thangalimodzi and Pastor Kilembe, South Malawi Conference Communication Director. The seminar will be officially opened on Friday morning by the Malawi Union Director of Communication, Mrs.Egolet Banda.
