Chilinde SDA Church Trains Members In Adventist Music

As one way of maintaining the standard of Adventist music in the church, Chilinde Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lilongwe organised a one week music seminar.

The seminar which started on Sunday 14th May 2017 and ended on Saturday 20th May 2017, brought together 29 participants drawn from various singing groups at the church.

Speaking with this reporter, the Music Director for Chilinde SDA church,Duncan Kalulu said, the seminar was aimed at reminding singing groups and individuals on how they can stick to the standards of Adventist music. Kalulu said this is why they engaged an expert in Adventist Music, Mr Matthews Mwandira from Kawale SDA church to help in teaching the principles of Adventist music.

"Mr Mwandira is an expert .During the one week,he has really taught us alot of things which will go along way in helping us on how we sing in the church",Kalulu said. He further said as a church they will continue practicing what they have been taught for the seminar to bear fruits.

And on his part, Mr Mwandira who is the music director at Kawale SDA Church, expressed gratitude to the authorities of Chilinde SDA Church for choosing him to teach among all the people. "It is indeed true that the standards of Adventist music are slowly going down hence the need for us to engage one another in Adventist Music", Mwandira said.

And on her part one of the participants, Esther Khaiya said the seminar is an eye opener as it will go along way in preserving the standards of Adventist music. She said, "during the seminar we have learnt alot including tonic Sofa, time, dynamics of Adventist music among others‘‘.

The closing ceremony on the Sabbath of 20th May 2017 was spiced by music from Msomera quartet from Msomera SDA Church in Chiradzulu and Kawale Church choir.

Msomera quartet is one of the oldest singing groups in the history of the SDA church in Malawi and is one of the groups that have maintained the standards of Adventist music up to date.

And during divine service, the congregation was blessed with a sermon from Pastor Chinthamba Gama from the South Malawi field. Pastor Gama preached on a sermon titled, "Why Reuben?" which focused on the life of Reuben who despite being a first born in his family, failed to make it because he was not in a good relationship with God.

Pastor Chinthamba Gama is well known for interpreting sermons of Elder Kahiya on Adventist Radio and Television.
