Thousands pay last respect to the beloved Rukshana Kunkanga



A sombre mood engulfed Chimbiya area in Dedza district on Monday 6th February 2017 when thousands of Malawians from all walks of life paid their last respects to Mrs. Rukshana Kunkanga who until her death was the Director of women Ministries,Children Ministries and Communication department in the Central Malawi Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church Mrs Kunkanga born in 1971 on 21st January died at the age of 46 early hours of sunday morning at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Blantyre after succumbing to a battle with cancer. In their eulogies various speakers hailed the late Kunkanga for her hardworking spirit and commitment to God‘s work.




The First lady of Malawi, Dr. Gertrude Mutharika who was represented by Presidential advisor Mr Mavuto Bamusi who described the deceased as one of the strong and gifted Dorcus leaders she had ever known. ‘I know this is tough for the family, the church and the entire Dorcus fraternity, But i urge you all women to be strong,courageous and not be discouraged‘.She said. Delivering a sermon from 1Thessalonians 4 vs 13, the President of the Malawi Union Conference of Seventh day Adventist church, Pastor Frackson Kuyama urged the bereaved family not to despair but to look upon Jesus as their helper and comforter. ‘Jesus will take care of you.He is coming soon.He will take you to meet your dear one but, only if you remain faithful till the end‘.- He said Pastor Kuyama continued to describe Kunkanga as a gallant soldier of Christ who worked hard despite her failing health. ‘Surprisingly,there are some who refuse to work for God yet they have good health‘.-He said. The Chief Financial Officer for the Central Malawi Conference of Seventh day Adventist church hailed late Kunkanga for her excellent organisational skills. During the funeral,her favourite bible Chapter,Psalm 143 was read by her daughter,Sharon. Among the people who attended the funeral were government officials,religious leaders from various denominations. Mrs Rukshana Kunkanga is survived by a husband; Harold and three children; Sharon,Vanessa and Hancy. She lived up to the billing of her name Rukshana, which means ‘dawn‘. No wonder she was always cheerful and looked at the bright side of life. “God never promised an easy life. He said that we will have suffering and heartaches, but He also promised that He will be with us, to comfort us and reunite us on the other side.” May our dear Mother, Sister and friend rest till we meet again in God's glory. Revelation 14:13(KJV) "13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."
